Omron is now selling its LD-250 mobile robot worldwide. The Omron LD-250 is the strongest mobile robot in the company’s LD series with a payload capacity of up to 250kg. It features a maximum speed of 1.2 m/s and a maximum run time of 13 hours before it needs to be recharged.

Other models in the Omron’s lineup include the LD-60 (payload up to 60kg), LD-90 (payload up to 90kg) and the Cart Transporter models that are able to transport up to 130kg.

The LD-250 mobile robot can be paired with the Omron Techman collaborative robot arms for applications that require mobile manipulation. The LD-250 mobile robot can also use accessories such as conveyor tops, courier systems, and adaptive material handling mechanics to meet customer needs. It can autonomously avoid people and obstacles while calculating the best routes to transport material.

“Onsite logistics, the movement of products and material within the factory and warehouse, is becoming a real bottleneck for many companies due to the frequency and tediousness of the job, compounded by rising labor costs,” said Tom Mathias, President and CEO of Omron Robotics and Safety Technologies.

The Omron LD-250 mobile robot will be debuting at the International Robot Exhibition 2019 (iREX) in Tokyo from December 18-21. The Omron LD-250 is designed for a variety of industries, including automotive, electronics, food and commodities.

“Omron has been putting great resources in helping customers realize flexible manufacturing with our robotics technologies since the acquisition of U.S. based robotics company Adept Technology, Inc. in 2015, as part of Omron’s ‘innovative-Automation’ initiative,” said Motohiro Yamanishi, Senior General Manager of the Robotics Business Development Project at Omron’s Industrial Automation Company, adding, “The new LD-250 will be key in advancing that initiative a step further, by giving customers more choice when automating their material transport operation, an area rapidly being enhanced with mobile robots in industries worldwide.”

Omron acquired Adept Technology in October 2015 for $200 million in cash. In 2019, Omron Robotics and Safety Technologies was formed as a merger of Omron’s safety and robotics businesses.
