There are already plenty of amazing chess engines around. Teaching robots to play chess is a whole different kettle of fish though. As this video from the MACS Lab shows, an industrial robot arm like the UR5e can be turned into a chess player with a 2D camera and deep learning neural network. It learns how to pick up and move the pieces to play the game.
