Testing robots in a lab is not necessarily going to prepare them for unstructured outdoor environments. Dyret happens to be a quadruped robot that can adjust the length of its legs to adapt its body to outdoor surfaces. It uses this approach to change its body shape to operate in unpredictable environments.
