3D Printed Prosthetic Hand Can Learn Wearers’ Movement Patterns

Here is a 3D printed prosthetic hand that can guess how the users play rock, paper, and scissors to help them with daily tasks. The Biological Systems Engineering Lab at Hiroshima University developed this prosthetic hand with a computer interface. It has electrodes to measures signals from nerves through the skin. The signals are sent to a computer to determine what movement is expected.

The cybernetic neural network that allows the computer to learn was trained to recognize movements from each of the 5 fingers.
