In the future, many of us will work alongside robots. Plenty of researchers are working on ways to make collaborative robots safer around humans. This video from University of Michigan ARM Lab demonstrates a prediction system of human reaching for human-robot collaboration in shared work-spaces.
The robot observes the beginning part of the movement and predicts the rest. It builds models on-the-fly and adapts to new people and motion styles.
