CMU’s Modular Bio-inspired Snake Robot

Robotic Gizmos

In the past few months, we have covered plenty of cool snake robots. CMU’s modular snake robot has been in development for a few years though. It has force sensing, so the the snake can determine how tightly to wrap around objects. These snakes can move on a variety of terrains, adapting to poles and gaps between walls.

These types of robots are ideal for inspection and other similar tasks. For instance, they can easily navigate through various pipes. TechCrunch recently visited Carnegie Mellon’s robotics lab to see various robots these guys have been working on. More info is available here.
